Organisers of Wolverhampton Literature Festival have revealed the names of some of the first guest speakers to appear at the annual event.

Now in its ninth year, it will run between 31 January to 2 February at various venues around the city, City of Wolverhampton Council said.

Actor Jassa Ahluwalia will discuss his debut book at a pre-festival event at Wolverhampton Art Gallery on 25 January.

Sunday Times bestselling writer and poet Hollie McNish will appear at the same venue on 31 January as part of her tour for her new book.

The city council is also offering members of the public the chance to perform at the festival.

People can submit their ideas or a short video by contacting the festival via the council by 18 August.

Previous celebrities to appear at the event include BBC presenter Louise Minchin, LBC’s James O’Brien and the city’s own Sathnam Sanghera.

The first 40 tickets for events with Jassa Ahluwalia and Hollie McNish are being offered at a discounted price of £10, the council said.

Cabinet member for city development, jobs and skills, councillor Chris Burden, said: “It is fantastic that the festival is returning to the city and is a platform to showcase skills and talents from all different backgrounds.

“To have two events already announced just shows how popular the event is.

“I look forward to seeing the complete line up and what the festival has to offer in 2025.”
